The Quinta da Regaleira is a magical and fascinating place full of symbols, mysteries and beauty. The manicured gardens, secret passages and the famous Initiatic Well provide a unique experience. A must-see site that combines history, art, and fairy-tale atmosphere.

La cura degli animali in generale. La vasca centrale che la sì può osservare da tutte le angolazioni. Fare un attività in famiglia diverso dal solito, anche noi che siamo grandi siamo stati affascinati. Grazie

Sintra was definitely the highlight and I would have liked to spend more time there. The tour says 8 hours, but plan for 9-10. If you buy yours complete with entry tickets, note that the ticket goes to your guide and not to you, limiting free time for exploration. Was happy to see so much of Portugal!

i loved the visit to the palace of pena, a unique sensation, incredible inside and rich in every detail. A great experience! The view from the top of the palace is wonderful, the receptionists very attentive, it was an incredible experience.

Discover the beauty of Pena Park

Surrounding the Pena Palace is one of Portugal’s most enchanting landscapes—Pena Park. Spread across over 200 hectares, this romantic park is more than just a backdrop. It’s a carefully designed wonderland of winding paths, exotic flora, hidden pavilions, serene lakes, and panoramic viewpoints. Whether you're a history buff, a nature lover, or simply looking for a peaceful escape, Pena Park offers a magical experience you won’t forget.

Highlights of Pena Park

A botanical wonderland

Created by King Ferdinand II, the park blends native and exotic trees from around the world—giant sequoias, Japanese cedars, ferns, camellias, and more. It’s a living museum of global plant life.

Scenic trails and secret pathways

Dozens of trails weave through the park, offering visitors a chance to discover quiet nooks, decorative bridges, fountains, and romantic ruins.

Chalet of the Countess of Edla (Optional access)

A picturesque Swiss-style chalet nestled within the park, this was the private retreat of King Ferdinand and his second wife, Elise Hensler. Its interiors and gardens offer a peek into their personal world.

Breathtaking viewpoints

Climb to Cruz Alta, the park’s highest point, for unmatched views over Sintra and the Atlantic coast. Other spots like Queen’s Throne and Saint Catherine’s Heights offer postcard-perfect panoramas.

Seasonal beauty

From spring blooms to autumn colors, the park transforms with the seasons, making every visit unique.

Another favorite hike is the trek to the Cruz Alta viewpoint via the Warrior Statue. Cruz Alta is the

How long should you spend at Pena Park?

There are two popular walking routes

Short route (around 1 hour)

This path stays near the palace and includes stops at the Camellia Garden (Jardim das Camélias), the Monk’s Grotto (Gruta do Monge), Queen’s Fern Valley (Feiteira da Rainha), and the Valley of the Lakes (Vale dos Lagos).

Long route (about 2.5 hours)

This trail takes you further around the park’s edges, leading to spots like the Temple of the Columns (Templo das Colunas), the Warrior Statue (Estátua do Guerreiro), Cruz Alta viewpoint, Alto do Chá viewpoint, Chalet of the Countess (Chalet da Condessa d’Edla), and the English Garden (Jardim Inglês).

Another favorite hike is the trek to the Cruz Alta viewpoint via the Warrior Statue. Cruz Alta is the highest point in the park, offering beautiful views, though treetops partially block the sight of the palace.

Frequently asked questions about Pena Park tickets

What does the Pena Park ticket include?

The standard ticket includes access to Pena Park, including its walking trails, gardens, scenic viewpoints, and, if selected, the Chalet of the Countess of Edla. Entry to the Pena Palace interior is only included if specified in your ticket option.

How long does it take to explore Pena Park?

Plan to spend at least 1.5 to 2 hours to explore the highlights of the park. If you’re walking to the palace and visiting the chalet, set aside more time—3–4 hours total for a relaxed visit.

Is the shuttle bus included in the ticket?

The shuttle between the park entrance and the palace is only included if you select that option. Otherwise, it’s a paid add-on. The walk takes about 30 minutes uphill, so the shuttle is a convenient choice for many.

Do I need to book tickets in advance?

For just the park, advance booking isn’t necessary. However, if you’re planning to visit Pena Palace, booking ahead is a smart move since entry times are scheduled.

When’s the best time to visit Pena Park?

It’s best to visit early in the morning or later in the afternoon. You’ll skip the crowds and get to enjoy the peace and beauty of the park at its finest. Spring and early autumn are especially great for pleasant weather.

Is Pena Park suitable for children or elderly visitors?

Yes, but be aware the terrain includes hilly and uneven paths. Comfortable shoes are recommended, and the shuttle can help with longer distances. Families with strollers or elderly visitors may want to plan for extra time.

What time should I arrive if I have a ticket for both the park and palace?

Arrive at least 30–45 minutes before your timed palace slot to allow for security checks and the walk (or shuttle ride) from the park entrance to the palace.
