2 beautiful parks and castles. On time we were allowed to acces. For Pena castle we liked the audio tour. However the numbers in the audio guide were not always the same as the numbers in the castle.

Was a great experience however I only got 1 audio guide for Pena Palace only. The audio guide wasn't very helpful either. I just paused it to read the available description in each room as I found it to be more informative.

We enjoyed the park very much. It was interesting to explore the castle, see artifacts from the past, and hear stories around them.

All round amazing experience! I must admit I was sceptical about not buying tickets through the official palace website - but we had no issues what so ever! We were even 30mins late due to a public transport delay. They were very accommodating and it was no drama at all! I had read prior that the inside of the palace wasn't worth visiting but I completely disagree, we are on the final leg of our 6week Europe trip and have been inside many many castles, we agree that this was the best one so far! Both inside and out and we are glad we did both the park and the palace! 100% will be booking with headout again. Cannot recommend enough.

The tour came as advertised. It was well organized, people assembled at the location and were divided into groups by language. The tour guide gave out information at both sites ( could have added more while we were driving to the site). We had 90 minutes on our own at lunch time, which was good.

The tour was well hosted...the crowds and choas at Pena Palace was as expected. The ticket taking on arrival could be better organised and communicated on site. There were a lot of groups all checking in at the same time and it wasn't clear on where to line up for each particular group.

La visita al Palacio da pena fue bonita pero había mucha gente y se formaban muchas colas para visitarlo. El tiempo que estuvimos en Cascais fue muy breve.

One of the Seven Wonders of Portugal

The Pena Palace & Park has been titled one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal, and for several reasons. Besides being an architectural melting pot, it also holds immense value as the former summer home of the Portuguese Royal Family.

Unbeatable location

When you gaze at the Sintra Mountains from anywhere in the town,  it’s hard not to be captivated by the vibrant facade of the Pena Palace. With its gardens spread across 200 hectares or nearly 500 acres, and sweeping views of the Sintra Mountains and the Atlantic coastline on the horizon, this monument will leave you spellbound.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site

The Pena Palace & Park was also designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995 and is a key part of the Cultural Landscape of Sintra. Its unique blend of neo-Gothic, neo-Manueline, Islamic, and Renaissance architectural elements, along with its colored history, makes it worth a visit.

Lavishly decorated interiors

If stepping back in time and exploring what royalty lived like sounds like your cup of tea, you can’t miss out on the Pena Palace. After all, it served as King Ferdinand II and Queen Maria II’s summer residence. They even went as far as intervening in its design and symbolism, a fact you can’t overlook, no matter where you set your eyes. The vaulted arches and medieval and Islamic elements were a credit to their taste for the unparalleled.

The magical Park of Pena

Surrounding the palace is the vast Park of Pena, a carefully designed romantic garden filled with exotic trees, serene pathways, pavilions, and hidden lookouts. It's a peaceful, natural escape that complements the palace’s grandeur.

Things to know before booking your Pena Palace tickets

  • Your Pena Palace & Park tickets get you timed entry to the monument. This guarantees entry to the palace, even during the peak season. You can also upgrade your tickets to include a digital multilingual audio guide and a shuttle service between the Park’s entrance and the Pena Palace, which would otherwise involve a 30-minute walk uphill.
  • If you want to tour the Pena Palace with fascinating tales and insights from a local expert, the Pena Palace guided tour should be your pick of the lot. This tour gets you access to the Pena Park, the Chalet of the Countess of Edla, and a choice between an English, Spanish, or Portuguese-speaking expert.
  • You can also combine your visit to the Pena Palace with other key Portuguese landmarks, including the Moorish Castle (2.2km away) and the Quinta da Regaleira (2.8km away). Both experiences let you upgrade to a self-guided tour with an audio guide. • If you want a tour that gets you access to the best of Portugal’s landmarks on a day-long tour with round-trip transfers, you can book a day trip. The day trip to Sintra, Pena Palace, Cabo da Roca, and Cascais takes you to the charming town of Sintra, the stunning Pena Palace, and the unmissable coastal towns of Cabo da Roca and Cascais.
  • Lastly, you can also get tickets to the Pena Palace with the Lisbon Card. The Lisbon Card gets you two options - a 48 or 72-hour card with access to 51 key attractions, public transport throughout the city, and round-trip transfers from the main entrance of the Pena Park to the palace.
